Reducing your risk of cardiovascular disease (video)

Heart Healthy Lifestyle 2

To reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, Cardiologist Dr. Shams recommends managing conditions and risk factors with the support of your medical team.

Some risk factors are considered modifiable, meaning disease conditions that can be managed and improved to reduce risk. Those are things such as diabetes, hypertension (high blood pressure) and high cholesterol – all issues which can be treated. There are also modifiable lifestyle factors that can be managed as well, such as smoking, diet and exercise. These together are modifiable risk factors that can reduce your overall risk.

Some risk factors are not modifiable, such as family history and personal history. While those can’t be changed, managing and treating modifiable risk factors can help reduce the overall risk of cardiovascular disease over time.

Watch the video below for more information on risk factors.
