Pulse Olympia Vascular team completes first EKOS™ case at Capital Medical Center

Pulse Cardiac Rehab patient completes the Hiawatha Trail ride 1

The first successful EKOS procedure at Capital Medical Center was completed this week.

Led by Vascular Surgeons Dr. CJ Hillenbrand and Dr. Sara Wasilenko and supported by the Cath lab team – Cardiovascular Technologist Lindsey Moorehead, RN Janelle Carolus, and Boston Scientific representative Denise Malley – the case was completed in the new hybrid OR. The case was quick and without complications, and the patient is doing well.

The Boston Scientific EKOS™ System is a safe, repeatable and reliable intervention for Pulmonary Embolism (PE) – a blood clot in a lung artery – by breaking down the clot quickly with low blood loss and low trauma to the patient. EKOS™ uses targeted ultrasonic waves to thin and separate fibrin strands to break down the clot and because of its small size, it can further reach into smaller vessels.

Thank you to everyone involved in bringing this critical service to the Olympia community, giving patients access to care that can truly change lives.
