Pulse completes first RDN procedure in the PSR

Pulse expands Gig Harbor clinic location

Pulse Heart Institute completed the first successful Renal Denervation (RDN) treatment in Pierce County at Tacoma General Hospital.

Led by Interventional Cardiologists Dr. Abhi Basoor, Dr. Daniel Guerra and Dr. Ravi Hira, the Cath lab team – Cardiovascular Technologist Jamie Sayler, Cardiovascular Technologist Katia Hawley, RN Rency O’Brien, RN Shawn Jerden and Anesthesiologist Dr. Aira Omoruan – completed the treatment successfully and the patient discharged home in a few short hours.

The procedure is approved for treatment in patients with high blood pressure (also known as hypertension) when lifestyle changes and antihypertensive medications cannot adequately control it. Resistant hypertension can lead to an increased risk of cardiovascular events such as heart attack, as well as stroke and kidney failure. For people living with high blood pressure, this breakthrough treatment offers a safe, lasting way to lower blood pressure and protect against heart attack, stroke and kidney disease. By making RDN available in our region, we are giving patients access to cutting-edge care that can truly change and save lives.

Recently approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the Medtronic Symplicity Spyral™ renal denervation (RDN) system involves a minimally invasive procedure that targets overactive nerves surrounding the kidneys, which play a key role in regulating blood pressure. It has been proven to deliver significant, safe and sustained blood pressure reductions.
