Pulse RN William Prichard wins DAISY Award

Congratulations to DAISY Award winner William Prichard, RN, Pulse Heart Institute cardiovascular intensive care unit nurse at MultiCare Tacoma General Hospital.

Prichard is a skilled nurse and teacher who excels at patient care. His calm demeanor and attentive nature help patients and family members alike feel at ease in unfamiliar, and sometimes scary, situations.

“William is a strong advocate for his patients and their family,” explains Clinical Director Jill Seeberger. “He is a very caring individual, and we are thankful to have him on our team.”

Nomination story

“William was the nurse for my husband,” writes his nominator. “He was very critical when we first arrived at 5 in the morning. William took over his care at 7am.

“William had a nursing student with him, and it quickly became apparent how great a teacher William is. I was grateful for the student because I got to learn right along with her pertaining to my husband’s case and care.

“William was incredibly attentive to my husband, even taking into consideration that he was quite critical and required one-on-one nursing. William quickly picked up on the nuances of his personality and utilized that in caring for him.

“William’s knowledge in his field is extraordinary, and he was fully supportive of my need to understand the intricacies of my husband’s case. William took time … to educate me on the terms and meanings of the words that described my husband’s situation. William spent a solid half-hour while my husband was resting, answering all my questions and helping me to grasp what was going on with him.

“In addition to this time, William was always able and ready to answer any other questions I had or explain any of the plethora of procedures that my husband was having done.

“William exudes a deep sense of calm and makes the patient and family feel as at ease as possible, even in very tense or scary situations. And besides all of this, and what I think makes William deserving of a DAISY Award, is his willingness to go above and beyond the call of duty.

“Even after my husband was deemed less critical and William was assigned to a more critical patient, he stepped in to help take care of his needs … as my husband’s nurse was otherwise occupied.

“While I hope that we never have need of William’s care again, the memory of our time spent in William’s care will live forever as one of my most special memories.”
